NOT a food blog
In my household, Bald Eagle will attest to the fact that desserts aren’t really my thing. Given a choice, I’d always pick savoury over sweet. On the other hand, Bald Eagle isΒ Kelantanese and everyone knows how much the Kelantanese like their sugar. (Opposites attract?) But the interesting thing is, when two people have been together for so long, their traits start rubbing off on each other, especially their mannerisms and their tastes. Sometimes they even start looking like each other. Which would be tragic in my case. It does take a certain head shape to be able to carry off the bald look and hey, we all know I’m not it.
Nowadays, I hardly say no to a good dessert (especially pavlovas). But Ochacha doesn’t carry pavlovas. Not many places carry good pavlovas. Sometimes, one has to beg good baker friends to make pavlovas for them.Β Sometimes, one resorts to dropping broad hints.
U Call This Tiramisu (no seriously, that’s what it’s called)
Ochacha does carry a wide range of green tea desserts and beverages, though. The Ochacha Latte is a nice way to kick things off.Β The brownie, I felt, despite having a strong chocolatey presence, had absolutely no matcha flavour despite the thick green cream. I had a lower expectation of the tiramisu as I was warned by a more seasoned patron of Ochacha that the green tea flavour was mild, but even he agreed that the tiramisu was good that day, with a good matcha flavour and a lovely creamy texture (despite the lack of alcohol). The moral of the story is that it is always good to approach a subject with an open mind instead of having preconceived expectations.
And sometimes, even chefs have bad hair days.
Food, for me, is a means to an end and not an end in itself.
Food, for me, represents the love of family, the fellowship of friends, and the community and communality it brings.

Jun: I am. Next month. But wrong city leh.
citygal: Yeah, it’s small. But gotta love the latte!
J2Kfm: It’s always intentional, dear. There’s beauty in imperfection. π
Kenny: And may I add, a dancing pseudo-latino bond girl too? cha-cha-cha!
Rioj: I have yet to try the outlet at the Pavilion. it does seem rather dead though.
ling239: yeah, quality’s not so consistent. hopefully, they’ve improved!
Henry: Don’t understand… Oh, you want funny? Got to fbb’s blog lor.

I’m with Jun. Come to Oz if you want the best pavlovas.
If fact I promise to make you a pavlova if you come to Australia. Don’t laugh! I’ll have you know that my pavlova won first prize at the Royal Sale Agricultural Show in 19xx…. opps, that would be giving my age way. Anyway, when I was 10! I still have the certificate to prove it.
PS: Where are you going to in Aus?

I’ll pass on the Henry’s Russian can-can girl and go with LL’s dancing pseudo-latino Bond Girl instead. Cha-cha-cha!
I mean, pseudo or no pseudo, you can’t go wrong with a hot latino, no? π
P.S. Don’t we mean latina, though? Unless LL enjoys them of a more cross-dressing variety. Watch out for the big surprise when they cross their fine, long legs! π

Steveky: Oh, you definitely can’t be as old as me! Damn, I knew I should have booked a ticket to Tasmania. Will drop you an email!
Joe: Baker friend having Ipoh Koay Teow leh. Oh ya hor…I dunno why it gets cold fast? Maybe it’s because we spend so much time taking photographs? π
BBO: Yeah, I agree…it is sexy!
Kenny again: Hahaha…was writing it in a haste before the internet died on me. But either way, I’m sure it’ll be exciting. π

UCTT experience at the gardens:
(1) Apr ’08 – bland, absolutely!
(2) May ’08 – dense green tea taste with rich cream
(3) Last week – finger licking good.
(4) next time – go with you ;D
be warned of the green tea stain on the teeth though..haha!

I see that you are going ‘green’. I see that your good baker friend haven’t got the hint yet since no response from him. Wonder if this would trigger him to sing again.

Mere coincidence, young Pea. And my baker friend is not in the vicinity of a computer, and even then, will he be able to figure out this hint that I’ve dropped? According to Men Are From Pluto, Women are from Heaven, one has to tell men directly what one wants or one may never get what one desires (basically, a pavlova).

I’m sure your photos are lovely. And I’m sure FBB will agree since he is a big fan of LEMONGRASS photos. I really LIKE tiramisus too, be interesting to try green tea flavour. I’m sure they can come up with a green tea PAVLOVA. If the cooks are as inventive as FBB. How about a LEMONGRASS dessert? Do you WANT to create one?? A pale green PAVLOVA would look lovely amidst white and pink ones..

kat: THANK YOU for highlighting to me that THE GOOD BAKER is a highly capable individual who SHOULD BE ABLE TO create several variations of the Pavlova. I hope that you’ll be able to GET some to sample some day. I like Pavlovas that HINT of lemongrass. But IF lemongrass is not available, any CLEVER use of ingredients should be good ENOUGH.
Kenny: Hmmmm, only if you don’t behave, Kenny. π
mimid3vils: Just approach it with an open mind. π

we suspect truly feminine ladies love to twirl their wet lips n longish slippery tongues up , sliding n over the creamy robust masculine chocolate feel , something cakes of many colors ( green pink and yellow ) offer to great effect.

whats all this hype about pavlova? egg white with a ton of sugar. falls in the same category as marshmallows and macaroons to me. bleahhhhhhhhh….
seriously, how can anyone eat the stuff? its a sure ticket to diabetes type II!!!! unless you adorn it with bitter gourd. and the ones in OZ are even MORE sweet!!! they must be all kelantanese there.

that’s all right fatboybakes. We know that pavlovas are bad for you – and your diabetes comment is probably very accurate. It’s only eaten irregularly and, in my experience, only at barbeques and funeral wakes. Go figure.
And… it’s the toppings that make the pavlova. Filled with cream and then smothered with grated peppermint crisp bars is my favourite… yummy!

There’s no wasabi powder added in any item except wasabi tuna sandwich.
@Henry Yeo & keropokman
Well I suggest don’t order Gyokuro or Chado. Sencha or any matcha you still can have good night sleep.

Finally a post i can relate to. I LOVE OCHACHA LATTE! often i look into foodie websites and go like “YUM!!” I can spend hours oogling at yummy food within my reach.
But the chances of me venturing to these places are slimmer than 0. (im not those adventurous sort). My eating/hangout place are limited to shoppin centres/ hotels/ bukit changkat, im sure a huge population of KL-ians does the same!!! will be good if u explore more on restaurants in shopping centres/ hotels n shall it with us!!! THANKS heaps!
