NOT a food blog
I don’t get it. Why does a man have to watch practically all EPL games even if he’s just supporting one team (Liverpool FC)? I had the misfortune of being forced to watch the Man Utd vs Arsenal game last night (we have just one TV, you see, and the internet was bonkers as usual), and I think that will probably be the last time that he’ll ever ask me to watch a game.
It was already the second half when we turned on the TV after coming back from the Celine Dion concert.
“I don’t think Cristiano Ronaldo’s that cute.”
“Well, he’s the number one pin-up boy for the gay community,” he responded with a deadpan look.
Several minutes later….
“If Manchester United’s from Manchester and Liverpool’s from Liverpool, where’s Arsenal from?”
“London lah.”
Hmmmm. Why isn’t there a London FC then?
When Hargreaves took the free kick, the men in the “wall” didn’t look like they were interested in defending the goal.
“Why didn’t the men jump?” I asked.
“Hmmm.”
I could see that I was making him think for a bit. This was going to be an intellectual experience for both of us, I knew.
Minutes later, I saw the ball bounce off the referee.
“What if the ball goes out? Who gets the penalty?”
At this point, I knew that the intellectual conversation which I craved so much had ended. He got up, went downstairs, and came back with some delicious, creamy durian puffs which I had purchased earlier from Lee Lee’s Sumptuous Desserts at The Gardens Mall. With the durian puff in my mouth, there was no way I could do any more talking. Mission accomplished.
Value for money – RM10 for 6 plump pieces (wrapped in thin crepes) Filled with cream and durian pulp (Hand model – Paprika)Lee Lee’s Sumptuous Desserts

Food, for me, is a means to an end and not an end in itself.
Food, for me, represents the love of family, the fellowship of friends, and the community and communality it brings.

If ball hits referee and it goes out, referee gives himself a green card (possible for migrating to America where there are only soccer moms).
Er, what is the yellow stuff underneath the whitish cream? (Sounds like a Kenny question, huh?) Looks like corn.
And what is the ‘wrapper’ like, soft or crispy?
(Liverpool has a few young, rough but quite nice-looking punks.)

fatboybakes: Fenugreek’s lovely and fragrant….hardly what I’d describe soccer.
argus: Yeah, and referee gets to fly Air Asia there (FYI, all them EPL referees have Air Asia patches on their arms). Yellow stuff’s durian. And the wrapper’s a crepe. Soft.

haha, yeah sounds like a similar discussion except hubby tries to tutor me in the offside rule so he can say to his mates that I know it. Of course I forget it the next day!We also have hairstyle discussions for the players. 🙂 Still, nice tactic with the Durian, masterly!

Alexandra: Hehe. Can’t wait for football season to be over. 😛
citygal: I don’t get it either. I mean, we look better than those dudes running around the field in shorts, right?
aidan: hahaha. Bald Eagle wasn’t as ecstatic, as you can imagine. 😛
joe: Ya lor. From now on, am gonna stock up on these goodies. And yeah, Paps has been well trained for hand shots.
Msiagirl: When I first learnt abt the offside rule, I was the annoying referee at home…”that’s an offside” “no it isn’t” “yes, that is” “sigh”.
fbb: now where’s the glasses which I planned to bestow upon you earlier? Read the fine print, dahlink.

While I like watching footie, too, let’s begin a fan club for:
synchronised piping of cream on cupcakes
acrobatic rolling of inside-out sushi
Any other sports, LL?

If referee hit the balls and the ball went out, I think they will toss the coin to see how gets the ball.
I sampled it when I was there two weeks ago. Real yummy. Too bad I’m on a tight budget, if not I’ve already bought half a dozen.

hehe…was that your grand plan Meena? 🙂 I’m not sure I can share your enthusiasm when it comes to the durian puffs as during is not one of my favourite tastes…but at least I’m not as bad as Olav. He claims that the chocolate/durian dessert we had at Stan’s is one of the worst desserts ever 🙂

The durian puffs look nice. I’ll be sure to try it out when I go.
In regards to the soccer (or should I say football) questions – I don’t think there’s a London FC because there’s lots of suburbs/neighbourhoods in London. Or they relocated to another area in England.
Also some of the clubs have a very long and extended history. In the case of Arsenal, Arsenal doesn’t come from a place called Arsenal but the team was formed by workers from Royal Arsenal… who made, well, arsenal. 😉
